Video Rating: 4 / 5Forever, For Always, For Luther (2004) is an emotional and heartfelt tribute to the legendary R&B vocalist Luther Vandross, who suffered a diabetes-induced stroke in April 2003 that left him in a coma for several weeks. Top Contemporary Jazz artists–including Boney James, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Brian Culbertson, Kirk Whalum, Mindi Abair, and Dave Koz–revisit several of his major hits and enable listeners to feel the passion and love for the man and his music. Such songs as “Any Love,” featuring saxophonist Kirk Whalum, take the collection to creative and harmonic heights. “If Only for One Night” features Dave Koz on soprano saxophone and Brian Culbertson on keyboards, rediscovering the R&B ballad with a seductive laid-back midtempo groove. Trumpeter Rick Braun plays the sentimental “Dance With My Father,” which was the last record Vandross recorded prior to suffering the stroke. This song went on to win multiple Grammy awards in 2004 and ends the recording on an emotional high note. The music on Forever, For Always, For Luther comes from a period that had an indelible imprint on many of Luther Vandross’ fans and friends, other musicians, and R&B history. It is an exceptional tribute to an excellent musician. Buy CD: www.amazon.com

Video Rating: 4 / 5Analysis of the II VI Progression: The chord movement known as the; “two,” “five,” “one,” is by far the most popular jazz chord movement out there. Most of the jazz standards contain this cycle of chords. It’s popularity is on the same level as the 12-Bar Blues set of chord changes. To fully understand this concept we must develop a firm grasp of the notes found in each chord and how they operate reflecting the strength of the resolution from the “two,” to the, “four,” and finally to the home chord, (the, “one”). Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio discusses this chord movement strategy in detail in this first video on the chord movement of the popular, “II,” “V,” “I,” jazz chord progression. An excellent book I would highly recommend on this topic is; “The Jazz Theory Book,” by Mark Levine. www.amazon.com It is a solid resource for all improvising musicians regardless of instrument or stylistic direction. Push is a acid funky jazz band – year 1996 – very good band for very good music
Video Rating: 4 / 5Herbert Jeffrey “Herbie” Hancock (born April 12, 1940) is a jazz pianist and composer. His music embraces elements of rock and soul while adopting freer stylistic elements from jazz. As part of Miles Davis’s “second great quintet”, Hancock helped redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section, and was one of the primary architects of the “post-bop” sound. Later, he was one of the first jazz musicians to embrace synthesizers and funk. Yet for all his restless experimentalism, Hancock’s music is often melodic and accessible; he has had many songs “cross over” and achieved success among pop audiences. Source (Wikipedia)
