The following is a list of the top 5 things a new indie rock band must do to make a great album. Keep in mind these basic concepts when putting together your work. In my experience as a musician I have found them to be very useful! This article is designed to help your new band make something great, so just relax, and have some fun!
1) Identify Your Concept/Vision!
Every new indie rock band is nothing without a concept or vision! To make a record that has a cohesive relative overall message, and fluid flow throughout, requires great planning and creativity. As a part of the latest rock music scene, you need to be exciting for your audience! Vision/Concept is a fundamental part of a great album!
2) Gather Solid Players!
The next key factor in making a great album with your new band, is solid players! Make sure your band has spent time and really worked out all the arrangements, making them the best they can possibly be. The latest rock music is very polished and “pro” sounding. Be sure your musicians are proficient, and experienced, or you will waste a lot of unnecessary time, and money, in the studio! Don’t be the band to make this mistake!!!
3) Craft Together Great Songs!
The success of the latest rock music from a new indie rock band, depends so much on the quality of the songs. Of course other elements come into play, but really- without great songs you will have a much harder time competing in this crazy new world of music! Do not underestimate the power of repetition, and a hook. If you aren’t humming it all day, it’s probably not that great of a hook. Just because you are a new indie rock band, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend time crafting your songs, to make them marketable!
4) Calculate Your Budget/Connections!
The next important thing when creating the latest rock music, as an indie rock band, is your budget and connections! Find out what kind of resources are available to you. Network with students (film, recording, engineering, producing, photography, design, etc) who would be willing to give cheap, or even free services in exchange for experience or portfolio development? A lot of the latest rock music is being made independently, by people working with a network of pro’s. You’d be surprised what’s available for a new indie rock band, just go look!
5) Focus on Your Band and Originality!
The last thing for a new indie rock band to consider in making their record, is originality! Competition has never been as fierce in the latest rock music! Never in the entire history of music making, until now! If you want fans to receive your music in large fashion, you have to be unique in some way. Whether its your story, your look, your sound, your message, your performances, whatever it is, you have to capitalize on it, in order to position you against the rest of the latest rock music out there.

The first major decision you’re likely to make when planning the music for your reception is whether to choose a band or a DJ. The major distinction between the two begins with price.
