Carlos Santana – “Samba Pa Ti” (1970)
Carlos Augusto Alves Santana (born July 20, 1947) is a Mexican rock guitarist. Santana became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which pioneered rock, salsa and jazz fusion. The band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin rhythms featuring percussion instruments such as timbales and congas not generally heard in rock music. Santana continued to work in these forms over the following decades. He experienced a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the late 1990s. Rolling Stone named Santana number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. He has won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards. Santana was born in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico. His father was a mariachi violinist, and Carlos learned to play the violin at age five and the guitar at age eight. Young Carlos was heavily influenced by Ritchie Valens at a time when there were very few Latinos in American rock and pop music. The family moved from Autlán de Navarro to Tijuana, the border city between Mexico and California, and then San Francisco. Carlos stayed in Tijuana but joined his family in San Francisco later and graduated from James Lick Middle School and Mission High School there. He graduated from Mission High in 1965. Javier Bátiz, a famous guitarist from Tijuana Mexico, is said to have been Carlos’s guitar teacher who taught him to play a different style of guitar soloing. After learning Batiz’s …

Boogie Motion – Boris Midney 1978
Pioneering dance music producer/arranger Boris Midney was among the principal architects of the Eurodisco sound. One of the first to exploit the full potential of 48-track recording, his trademark blend of strings, horn and percussion created a sound as deep and lush as any heard during the disco era. Born in Russia, Midney was a classically-trained composer who started out writing film scores; turning to disco, however, he discovered his true calling. Working under a number of guises he produced an enormously prolific body of work from his New York City studio ERAS. He first came to American prominence with USA-European Connection. The concept was simple, take lush female vocals and arrangements (done USA style) and place them over swirling strings, and incessant synthesized beats (Euro style) and you have a hit. The four track debut album stormed the club charts and peaked at #-1. “Love’s Coming/Baby Love” and “Come Into My Heart/Good Loving” were in a class by themselves…….chic disco! The first album, “Come Into My Heart,” released in 1978 was recorded in Philadelphia at ALPHA Recording studios. Midney used Leza Holmes, Renne Johnson and Sharon Williams for the vocals and Joan Cordas and Bruce Weeden to assist in the musician department. By the time of the release of 1979′s “USA-European Connection” he had moved into his 48-track ERAS studio in New York. Vocal duties were handle in-house by Kevin Owens and Chequita Jackson, singers he used on many of his other …

Paul McCartney – My Valentine [HiD]
***Official Video Created by TheBeatleMirko*** Kisses on the Bottom is the 16th solo studio album by Paul McCartney, and his first since 2007′s Memory Almost Full. The album was released on Hear Music on 7 February 2012. It has been released on LP and CD. The album’s title, “Kisses on the Bottom”, comes from the album’s lead track “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter,” originally a hit for Fats Waller in 1935. Said McCartney on the album, “I worked with Diana Krall, and great jazz musicians like John Clayton. This is an album very tender, very intimate. This is an album you listen to at home after work, with a glass of wine or a cup of tea.” The disc was helmed by jazz producer Tommy LiPuma who has previously worked with Miles Davis and Barbra Streisand, among others. “My Valentine”, the first song released from the album, features Eric Clapton on guitar. Stevie Wonder appears on another album track, “Only Our Hearts”. McCartney plays acoustic guitar on two tracks, “Get Yourself Another Fool” and “The Inch Worm,” but otherwise contributes only vocals to the album. The deluxe version of the album includes two additional tracks (including “Baby’s Request”, a cover of a Wings song from the Back to the Egg album), a download code for access to an exclusive live show available from Paul McCartney’s website a week after the album’s release, and longer liner notes and expanded album packaging, including three postcards. In a review of the album for BBC Music …

The Beatles – Hey Jude
The Beatles – Hey Jude 1968 “Hey Jude” is a song by the English rock band The Beatles. Credited to Lennon/McCartney, the ballad evolved from “Hey Jules”, a song Paul McCartney wrote to comfort John Lennon’s son Julian during his parents’ divorce. “Hey Jude” begins with a verse-bridge structure based around McCartney’s vocal performance and piano accompaniment; further instrumentation is added as the song progresses to distinguish sections. After the fourth verse, the song shifts to a fade-out coda that lasts for more than four minutes. “Hey Jude” was released in August 1968 as the first single from The Beatles’ record label Apple Records. More than seven minutes in length, “Hey Jude” was, at the time, the longest single ever to top the British charts. It also spent nine weeks as number one in the United States—the longest run at the top of the American charts for a Beatles single. The single has sold approximately eight million copies and is frequently included on professional lists of the all-time best songs. McCartney changed the title to “Hey Jude” because the name Jude was easier to sing. Much as he did with “Yesterday”, McCartney played the song for other musicians and friends. Ron Griffith of Badfinger, the first band to join The Beatles-owned record label Apple Records, recalled that on their first day in the studio, “Paul walked over to the grand piano and said, ‘Hey lads, have a listen’, and he sat down and gave us a full concert rendition of ‘Hey Jude’. We were …

Karen’s sweet voice singing the sweetest Christmas song. Richard Carpenter composed the music for this song in 1966 when he was 19 years old. Frank Pooler wrote the lyrics twenty years earlier, in 1946, when he also was only 19 years old. The song Pooler had written was to be a Christmas gift for his girlriend, whom he was missing while being away from her during a visit with his parents at Christmas time. Sadly, their relationship ended before he could present it to her. Twenty years later, Pooler was the choir director at California State University in Long Beach, when both Karen and Richard Carpenter were members of the choir. Richard and Karen were performing locally and had tired of playing the usual Christmas fare. Richard asked Pooler, their favorite professor, if he had any ideas for different songs. Pooler remembered the Christmas song he had written many years before and mentioned it to Richard, adding that he didn’t think much of the melody anymore. Richard said he would try his hand at writing new music for the lyrics. Within about 15 minutes he was finished creating a song, written by two teenagers who were a generation apart, that was destined to become a Christmas classic. The song was first released as a single (yes, a 45) on November 20,1970, and earned gold record status. This song sparked the idea of a Christmas album by The Carpenters, and on October 13, 1978, “Christmas Portrait” was released with this newly recorded version of the song. Karen re …

Red House Band – (She’s Got) No Name
7″ single (She’s Got) No Name / Stonehearted Man (Love Records) 1979 music: Manninen/Kaikkonen , words: Vando Suvanto This is the A-side of the only record the band ever released. There would have been potential for a whole LP, but perhaps the timing just wasn’t right, because in the year 1979 punk was living it’s heyday also in Finland and it was quite hard for blues based rock bands like Red House Band to make it big. Few years earlier the history could have been totally different. All the band members kept on playing and today they are well known musicians in Finnish music history. The single is very hard to find, even though it’s collectable list price isn’t very expensive. Muta Manninen (guitar) Luumu Kaikkonen (guitar, vocals) Kaj Ohrling (bass) Keimo Hirvonen (drums)
